Barrett goes bonkers again

Santa Barbara handed Ventura its first Channel League baseball loss on Friday, pocketing a 7-3 win thanks to another strong day at the plate from Trey Barrett.

The Dons first baseman has tallied three home runs and 11 RBIs in two league wins this week after going 3-4 with one home run and five RBIs on Friday.

“He’s on a tear,” said Dons assitant Mike Cooney.

The Dons (7-1-1) have benefitted, improving to 2-1 in league after losing their first game to San Marcos.

Collin Dewell and Kees t’Sas had the other RBIs for Santa Barbara, which never trailed. Dewell, t’Sas, Joey Gonzales and Jack Crummer all had mulit-hit games.

Dons starting pitcher Danny Zandona picked up his third win of the season for pitching six solid innings. Zandona was able to preserve Santa Barbara’s lead by pitching out of a jam in the third inning, when the Cougars scored all three of their runs and threatened for more.

Alex Spatz worked a scoreless seventh inning to record his first save.

The Dons take a bye on Tuesday before taking on Buena at home next Friday.
