Eduardo Contreras gave Carpinteria’s boys soccer team two much-needed second-half goals on Monday, bringing the Warriors a 3-2 Tri-Valley League win over Santa Paula.
The Cardinals took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Contreras provided the equalizer in the 57th minute and the game-winner three minutes later in the 60th. Tony Alvarez pulled the Warriors even in the first half at 1-1 after Santa Paula had taken its 1-0 lead in the second minute.
Carpinteria’s offense finally showed signs of life, having not produced three goals in a game during league competition until Monday.
Carpinteria improves to 6-3-1 in league with two games left. The Warriors travel to first-place Oaks Christian on Wednesday and to Malibu on Thursday before playoffs.
“I’m excited and I know the boys are too,” said Carpinteria head coach Daniel Torres, who described a brief scuffle before halftime that elevated emotions. “Finally getting three goals again is big for us.”
