Carpinteria’s girls soccer team suffered a heartbreaker on Wednesday, as Oak Park scored in the last minute of overtime to hand the Warriors a 2-1 defeat.
“It was on a last-minute corner kick. They have a bunch of tall girls and we are very short,” said coach Lucy Carleton. “Our girls did a really good job, and everybody had to step it up.”
The Eagles scored in the 13th minute, but the Warriors responded right away. Joselyn Gamez dribbled through the entire defense and took a shot. It was blocked back and Maritza Torres scored on a rebound. Tania Arroyo made some excellent saves by deflecting the ball over the top of the goal, according to Carleton.
Erin Harris also made some great saves on defense, backing up her goalie and sending balls away before they rolled in. Carpinteria suffered some injuries to key players in the overtime period and Oak Park was able to pull it out at the very end.
