Carpinteria’s boys soccer team finished tied with Fillmore for second place in the Tri-Valley League after beating Malibu 3-2 on Thursday. The Warriors will have the second seed in CIF out of the league, having beaten the Flashes twice on the year.
The Warriors (14-5-2, 7-4-1) came out on fire, finding themselves up 2-0 just 12 minutes in. In the fifth minute, Tony Alvarez scored from 20 yards out off of a rebound.
“It was a very nice goal. He’s playing with two bad knees and a pulled hammy. I’d say he’s at 30-percent, but he’s just got so much heart,” said coach Daniel Torres of Alvarez.
In the 12th minute, Alavrez sent a ball over the defense to Eduardo Contreras, who buried it from the corner of the box. Torres said that things got a little sloppy for his team after that, as the Sharks scored late in the first and early in the second to tie things up.
The Warriors were awarded a penalty kick in the 70th, and Oscar Montes put it in for the win.
“I’m still a little worried because we haven’t seemed to be focused for the entire game,” said Torres. “But I feel confident in the boys, and hopefully we can figure out a way to play for the whole 80 minutes in CIF.”
