SBCC’s defense put the clamps on Oxnard, holding the Condors to 15 second-half points on Saturday night in a 62-40 women’s basketball victory at Oxnard.
Brittany Stephenson had 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks for the second-place Vaqueros (16-11, 8-2), who won for the sixth time in seven WSC North games. Jake Kelly added 12 points and eight rebounds and Francesca DeAngelis collected 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals.
After leading 27-25 at the half, the Vaqueros won the second half 35-15. The Condors made just 19.2 percent (5-26) after intermission and had 31 turnovers in the game.
“It was one of those games, we didn’t play a great first half after a tough game with (No. 1) Ventura,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We got it together in the second half and we hit our free throws (20-27 for the game).”
The Vaqueros travel to Hancock on Wednesday before finishing the regular season at home against Cuesta on Feb. 20.
