Miles Evans had 24 kills on Wednesday but SBCC’s passing and blocking weren’t up to par in a 30-24, 29-31, 30-21, 30-22 nonconference loss to Orange Coast in Costa Mesa.
Cody Zoesch, a 6-8 freshman, added 11 kills for the Vaqueros (5-1), who overcame a 23-19 deficit to win the second set. The Pirates (4-0) jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the third set and a 16-12 advantage in the fourth.
“Our passing broke down a little,” said coach Melody Parker. “They ran a quick outside and our blocking wasn’t as sterling as it has been.”
SBCC returns home to take on Irvine Valley on Friday at 7 p.m.
