Vaqs lose halftime lead at L.A. Pierce

SBCC couldn’t overcome 20 percent second-half shooting on Saturday night in a 78-65 WSC North men’s basketball loss to L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills.

The Vaqueros led 44-41 at halftime but went 10 minutes without a field goal in one second-half stretch and got outscored 37-21 in the final 20 minutes.

David Lane had 19 points and Lucky Teeguarden added 16 for SBCC (5-17, 1-7). Teeguarden and Willie Reese grabbed five rebounds apiece.

“We had a lot of close opportunities in the second half but we just didn’t capitalize,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We gave up some big offensive rebounds on crucial free-throw misses.”
