Sea Kings sink threes to sink Royals

Ramon Mejia went off on Friday night, and it wound up ending San Marcos’ boys basketball season.

The junior guard hit eight treys — six in the fourth quarter — as the host Sea Kings (24-3) handed the Channel League champions a 67-48 loss in the second round of the CIF playoffs.

Johnny Manzo had 16 points and Christian Mkpado added 14 for the visitors.

The Royals (20-5), turned the ball over 21 times, leading to 24 points. It was 23-20 CDM with under two minutes to go in the first half, but three San Marcos turnovers sent the Sea Kings into the break up 33-20.

The Royals’ press got the game to within eight points in the second half before Mejia buried four consecutive threes to seal the game.
