The second half of SBCC’s lineup posted a perfect 5-0 record on Friday, leading the Vaqueros to a 5-4 women’s tennis victory over Grossmont in El Cajon.
The 4, 5 and 6 singles players — Anna Slyutova, Terea Tapu and Meghan Schaefer — all won in straight sets. The doubles teams of Schaefer-Amy Sagraves and Slyutova-Meike van Hoogenhuijze also posted victories for the Vaqueros (2-0), who were playing their first match in 15 days.
“Our 4-5-6 singles really came through,” said coach Debbie Ekola. “Meike has a mild injury right now, so we didn’t play her in singles. It was a hard-fought match and a great win.”
Grossmont has won 11 state titles, most recently in 2008.
The Vaqueros open WSC play on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. home match against Glendale.
