SBCC captured five of six singles points in Tuesday’s WSC men’s tennis opener at Glendale and went on to post a 7-2 upset of the ninth-ranked team in Southern California.
Nikolay Ivanov beat his second straight ranked player at No. 1 singles, knocking off No. 5 Joe Tresierras 6-0, 6-3. Alex Zazove, Cameron DeAragon, Kyle Lewis and Zack Scott also posted straight-set victories for the Vaqueros (2-3, 1-0).
“We got off to a fast start in a key match on the road,” said coach Don Lowry. “We got toughened up in the preseason and it helped us today. Our guys are coming into their own.”
It was the second straight win over a top-10 ranked team for Santa Barbara, which plays host to Bakersfield on Thursday at 2 p.m.
