San Marcos’ girls water polo team posted its fifth straight win on Tuesday, bringing down Buena 7-2 for a Channel League victory.
The Royals are now 3-3 in league and 17-8 overall, with undefeated Dos Pueblos next on the schedule for Tuesday.
Senior Flo Chardon collected four steals and scored twice for San Marcos, which was led in goals by freshman Hannah Koper, who had three. San Marcos was helped out by its 12 steals as a team and its 3-of-7 success rate on 6-on-5s.
Royals head coach Brian Roth thought Mallory Zaunius had a solid game in the cage, saying the Royals’ win streak has been achieved with defense.
Zoe Kirker and Brittny Hummel added goals for San Marcos, who took a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Buena scored both of its goals in the second period, but was still down 5-2 at half.
