A disappointing season for the San Marcos boys soccer team came to an end on Thursday as the Royals fell at home to Ventura, 3-1.
San Marcos finishes at 0-6-2 in the Channel League after starting the season with a win at the Central Coast Classic and a 5-1-1 record.
“You gotta roll with the punches. We had a great start to the season but lost a few players to injuries,” said coach Brian Eisen. “We just didn’t get any calls or any breaks. It is what it is.”
The Royals struck first as Chris Olmedo took a corner kick at the far post and buried it in the 30th minute. Ventura scored just before halftime, then did so again in the opening minutes of the second to take the lead. They added one more before the final whistle.
Eisen said that freshman Brian Godinez had a nice game in the midfield in just his second varsity game. While the Royals will not make the postseason, he said he’s hoping that either Dos Pueblos or Santa Barbara can make a run and bring a title to town.
