Junior forward Dan Rasp had a monster game for the Warriors, leading Westmont’s men’s basketball to a 82-61 win over Hope International on Saturday night at Murchison Gym.
Rasp finished the game with 25 points, including 16 in the first half, to ignite the Warriors’ offense. He also added six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
“He was special tonight” said Westmont head coach John Moore about Rasp’s play.
Already with five points in the game, Rasp went up for a dunk with 11:47 left in the first half which got the crowd going.
“I haven’t dunked that much at home,” said Rasp. “It felt good to throw it down.”
That dunk put the Warriors (15-7 overall, 8-6 GSAC) up by 11 and was part of an 8-0 run. The Warriors were never really challenged for the rest of the game.
“It starts on the defensive end,” said Coach Moore.
And the Warriors did a great job in their own end. Evan Haines led the Warriors with 12 rebounds to go with the nine points he scored. The Warriors also forced 24 turnovers, led by Chris Jackson who had five steals, nine assists and six points.
Buai Tut led all Royals players in scoring with 17 points and had four rebounds as well. As a team they shot a solid 44.4percent (24-54) from the floor, but the Warriors were better, finishing at 52.3 percent (34-65) from the floor.
The Warriors’ next game will be against California Baptist. Tip off will be at 7:30 PM, Tuesday, February 9 at Murchison Gym.
Hope International falls to 4-18 overall, 0-13 GSAC.
