Three wins in three days for the Laguna Blanca girls soccer team led to back-to-back Condor League titles, as a 2-1 comeback win at Thacher sealed a share of the championship with Cate, which beat Dunn handily.
It gives the Owls their first back-to-back league titles in school history according to coach Gregg Luna, who has now won three titles in four years at the helm.
“They played their hearts out, and for them to beat Dunn, Cate and Thacher in three straight days is an amazing accomplishment,” said Luna.
The Toads struck first on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the game, but Mackenzie Scarborough got the equalizer on an unassisted 25-yard strike 10 minutes later. Luna estimated that Laguna out-shot the Toads 8-1 from that point on, but Thacher’s keeper made some great saves.
She couldn’t do anything, however, when defender Kelsey Douglas scored her first goal of the season on a bomb from 40 yards out. Luna added that after being benched two days ago against Dunn, goalie Arabella Watters put together back-to-back great games against the Rams and Toads.
A coin toss on Thursday will determine whether Cate or Laguna (13-4-2) gets the higher seed heading into CIF play.
