Cate and Laguna Blanca didn’t let a rainy day get in the way of their boys soccer match on Friday, as the two teams battled the weather as well as each other in a 2-0 Cate victory.
The first-place Rams are 4-0-2 in the Condor League and 9-1-2 overall.
The two teams tied each other 3-3 in their first meeting and were tied again at halftime 0-0.
In the 55th minute, Jackson Mauze launched a throw-in that reached the penalty box and the foot of Jason Park, who scored his first goal of the season to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Avery Shwartz gave the Rams a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later when he converted a penalty kick. Sophomore goalkeeper Grant Redmond recorded his second-straight shutout behind defenders Luke Shover, Kirk Seaman, Michael Hassman, Mackie Greason and Mauze.
The loss puts the Owls’ playoff chances in doubt. They would need Dunn to beat Thacher next week and have themselves take care of business against Ojai Valley School.
