Santa Barbara and Goleta’s girls Under-14 AYSO team, otherwise known as “Team Oswego,” claimed the Area 10W championship over President’s Day weekend and will be headed to Palm Beach, Florida this July for the AYSO National Games.
Oswego beat all star teams from Carpinteria, Ventura, Santa Paula, Ojai, Oxnard and Camarillo.
Oswego won the 10W championship on Valentine’s Day in double-overtime. North Oxnard took a 1-0 lead in the last 5 minutes of the game but with just seconds to go in regulation time, Oswego scored the tying goal with a blast from just outside the 18-yard line.
Then in the last few moments of the second overtime period, Oswego grabbed a 2-1 victory with another goal from almost the identical spot, outside the 18-yard line. Both Oswego and North Oxnard have a chance to meet again in the Section 10 playoffs in Bakersfield in early March.
Team Oswego is one of 24 teams across the country in the U14G age group invited to the AYSO National Games this summer. The team is fundraising so that all 14 girls can participate. Please contact Charlie Miles at 680-4011, or view the team website for fundraising events by clicking here.
