Matt Organista and Garrett Edwards took second and third in the men’s 3000m on Friday in 9:14.49 and 9:18.86, respectively, to lead SBCC in the WSC Relays at Ventura College.
Organista also ran on the distance medley relay squad that placed second in 10:34.03. His teammates were Stephen Scrafford, Freddy Maldonado and Donald Morgenson. Johan Lindqvist was second in the triple jump (13.87m) while Aeryus Holloway was fifth (13.56m).
Paige Turner topped the Vaquero women with a third-place effort in the high jump (1.37m).
“Our men’s distance runners really came out to run,” said coach Scott Fickerson. “They raced hard and tough and posted some very good marks for early season. Johan and Aeryus were very tough in the triple jump and should be a force in that event all season.
“Paige improved in the high jump over last week’s performance and should continue to progress over the next several weeks.”
The Vaqueros return to action on March 13 at the Northridge Invitational.
