Freshman Kailey Snyder tossed four innings of two-hit ball and delivered an RBI triple in the eighth inning Thursday night, leading SBCC over Bakersfield College 3-1 in an eight-inning softball game at Bakersfield’s new stadium.
Sara Gazzaniga held the Renegades to two hits in the first four frames before Snyder, a freshman from St. Joseph High, came on in the fifth.
Lisa Zeitlin went 2-for-3 for the Vaqueros (4-1) and staked them to a 1-0 lead with an RBI double that scored Laura Cannon in the fourth. Bakersfield tied it in the seventh on an RBI single.
Amanda Sharp drew a walk to open the eighth frame and Snyder drove a ball over the right fielder’s head for a run-scoring triple. Zeitlin added a two-out RBI single.
“It was a fantastic game and they’re always nailbiters up here,” noted coach Paula Congleton. “We were excited to play under the lights in their new $1.5 million stadium. They’re going to host the state finals this year.”
The Vaqueros will host Canyons on Thursday at 2 p.m.
