SBCC’s Jesse Ferris fired a season-best 2-under-par 70 on Friday to take second place in the Rio Hondo Invitational at California CC in Whittier. Ferris, who’s shot par or better in three of four rounds this year, finished one shot behind the medalist, Ryan Turner of Ventura.
Albert Corral (73), Ross Martin (75) and Donald Carano (78) also turned in season-low rounds as the Vaqueros (20-6) took fourth in the 13-team field with a season-best 377. Orange Coast was the champion at 366, followed by Canyons (368) and Ventura (371).
“It was a great day for golf, although the greens were a little bumpy,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “As we gain experience, hopefully we’ll get better. We have a big upside. This field had the best teams in Southern California.”
Monday’s WSC tourney at Citrus has been postponed. The Vaqueros return to action on Wednesday in the Ventura Invitational at Monarch Dunes in Nipomo.
