Willie Reese scored 17 of his season-high 26 points in the first half Wednesday night and SBCC went on to beat Hancock 77-59 in a WSC North men’s basketball game in Santa Maria.
Reese, a 6-6 freshman from Santa Barbara High, made 10-of-12 shots in the first 20 minutes as the Vaqueros (8-17, 4-7) built a 46-29 lead en route to their third straight win. Reese shot 75 percent (12-16) for the game.
Daniel Koches, the second-best 3-pointer shooter in the WSC at 46.8 percent, added 13 points. Steven Saenz had nine points while Chris Vines collected eight points and seven rebounds.
“We did a great job of setting the tone defensively,” said coach Morris Hodges. “The team was really focused.”
SBCC finishes the season on Saturday with a 7 p.m. home game against Cuesta.
