Francesca DeAngelis tossed in 26 points Wednesday night and SBCC took care of Hancock 73-53 in a WSC North women’s basketball game in Santa Maria.
DeAngelis, the leading scorer in the WSC, shot 50 percent (11-22) and also had five assists for the Vaqueros (17-11, 9-2), who’ve won two straight and seven of their last eight. Jake Kelly contributed 16 points (including three 3-pointers), five rebounds, six assists and four steals while Brittany Stephenson posted a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds).
Mara Lux had seven rebounds for the Vaqueros, who won the board battle 51-35 and only commited 15 turnovers.
“We played a good all-around game,” said coach Sandrine Krul, whose team led 36-27 at the half. “We’ve been working on taking care of the ball and shooting free throws. We need to put it all together on Saturday.”
SBCC outshot the Bulldogs 38.6 to 30.7 percent. Hancock attempted 36 free-throws but only made 19 (52.7 percent) while the visitors were 10-21 from the charity stripe.
Santa Barbara completes the regular season on Saturday with a 5 p.m. home game against Cuesta. SBCC is seeking its fourth playoff appearance in six years and the Southern Cal Regional pairings will be announced on Monday.
