Fillmore has been on a roll of late and Bishop Diego’s basketball team wasn’t able to keep the ball from picking up speed in a 60-42 Frontier League loss to the Flashes.
“They were a better team. They played like a first-place team,” said Cardinals head coach Ray Vazquez of Fillmore, which won its seventh straight league game to improve to 7-1 in league.
Bishop Diego, 3-5, is in sole possession of fourth place.
Chris De La Paz led Fillmore in scoring with 21 points, 17 coming in the first half.
Kyle Holland was Bishop’s top man with 12. He too got off to a hot start, collecting 10 of his 12 in the first quarter. Elias Munoz tallied 10 points as the Cardinals’ second-highest scorer.
Even with Holland’s hot start, Fillmore took a 21-13 lead to start the second quarter.
Bishop Diego has four games left on the regular season schedule, starting with Villanova on Friday. A non-league game with Carpinteria follows on Monday.
