Santa Barbara High didn’t surprise anyone by earning the top seed in the CIF boys soccer Division II bracket, which was released on Monday afternoon along with the girls pairings.
The Dons finished the season at 24-0-1, and will host the winner of Tuesday’s wild card matchup between Littlerock and Martin Luther King. MLK is the fourth-place team out of the Big VIII league while Littlerock took fourth in the Golden League. Santa Barbara’s first-round game will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday at Peabody Stadium.
Dos Pueblos (9-5-9), the second-place team out of the Channel League, plays in Palmdale at Knight, which took second in the Golden League with an overall record of 21-6-0.
In Division IV, Carpinteria will host Inglewood, the No. 2 team out of the Ocean League. The Warriors (10-5-2) took second in the Tri-Valley League in an up-and-down season, while the Sentinels went 8-7-1 overall with a 5-game win streak heading into Thursday’s game.
Condor-League champion Cate will host either Oakwood, the No. 3 team from the Liberty League, or Granite Hills, an at-large bid from the Desert Sky League, in Thursday’s Division VI opener.
The Santa Barbara High girls will host Long Beach Poly in Friday’s Division I first-round action. The Jackrabbits took second in the Moore League. Dos Pueblos will host West Torrance, an at-large team from the Bay League, in a wild card contest on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Laguna Blanca, which made a stellar run all the way to the semifinals last year, will begin its Division VII campaign by hosting Cantwell Sacred Heart, the No. 3 team from the Camino Real League. Cate, which tied the Owls for the Condor League title, hosts Montview, the fourth-place team from the La Puente League. Both games are on Friday.
