Carpinteria’s third straight win wasn’t such a sure thing on Monday.
The Warriors needed two second-half goals to come from behind to beat Fillmore 2-1 in a Tri-Valley League boys soccer contest.
“The first half didn’t go well but the boys played a tremendous second half,” said Warriors head coach Daniel Torres, whose squad ups its record to 12-3-1.
Eduardo Contreras brought Carpinteria even at 1-1 moments after the beginning of the second half. He was pulled down in the box to draw a penalty kick, which Contreras converted himself.
Contreras added an assist on the next goal, setting up Tony Alvarez in the 57th minute.
Torres was pleased to see his team respond in the second half, thinking it may have been sparked by the senior leadership of Jose Sanchez, who had some choice words for the team at the break.
“They played with some character, something I haven’t seen in awhile,” Torres noted.
Carpinteria travels to Oak Park on Wednesday.
