Bishop Diego head girls soccer coach Brent Gonsalves is really starting to dislike the trip to Villanova’s Ojai campus.
The Cardinals lost 2-0 on Tuesday to the Wildcats, a team they had beaten 5-0 at home less than three weeks ago.
“We have this weird thing going on,” Gonsalves said. “I’ve been here for three years and going to Villanova always seems to be our worst game of the year.”
Candace Melgoza prevented a 2-0 shutout by converting a penalty kick in the final minutes.
“The score doesn’t even indicate how horrible the game was,” said Gonsalves, trying to figure out what it was about playing at Villanova that could explain his team’s uncharacteristic play.
To pour salt on the wound, the loss eliminated the Cardinals from the playoffs barring a miraculous upset of Malibu in their final regular season game. First, Bishop hosts Santa Clara on Thursday.
