Villanova’s rims were a bit too stiff for Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team on Saturday, deflecting many a Cardinal shot in a 49-34 Wildcats victory in the second round of CIF’s Division V-A playoffs.
“We had our chances, we just didn’t shoot the ball very well,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich.
Bishop also let go of Hannah Kolveck, who scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter for Villanova.
Kelsey Stimson led the Cardinals with nine points while Courtney Houston tallied eight points, Janelle Kohler seven and Essence Thornhill had six.
Kohler, a four-year varsity player, also grabbed eight rebounds. Another senior playing in her last game, Ariel Perez, dished out a team-high three assists.
Bishop earned second place in the Frontier League this season and nearly had a 20-win season by going 19-10.
