Carpinteria’s boys soccer team overcame its recent scoring problems on Thursday, finding the back of the net twice in a 2-0 Tri-Valley League victory over Santa Paula.
The Warriors failed to score in the first half, which stretched their scoreless streak to the equivalent of three-straight games.
But Warriors head coach reassured his side at halftime, saying the goals would come.
It took a penalty kick for the Warriors to break the dry spell, as Oscar Montes converted a PK created by teammate Eduardo Contreras in the 44th minute.
It was Contreras’ first action in over two weeks due to injury.
“I’m happy to have him back, he plays a big role on our team,” said Warriors head coach Daniel Torres.
Sergio Ortega gave the Warriors their second score, running down a ball from Contreras that had bounced over Santa Paula’s keeper’s head.
Carpinteria improved its record to 3-2 in league after two straight losses and plays its third league game this week on Friday against Bishop Diego.
Hans Puma and Diego Gamez shared the shutout in goal.
