Francesca DeAngelis went on a 7-0 run over the final 41 seconds Saturday night, lifting SBCC over Moorpark 70-64 in a WSC North women’s basketball game at Moorpark. The WSC scoring leader made a field goal and 5-of-6 free throws as the second-place Vaqueros (14-10, 6-1) extended their season-high win streak to four games.
Jake Kelly had 25 points and five steals while DeAngelis collected 23 points and seven rebounds for Santa Barbara, which has won seven of its last eight. Kelly hit 11-17 from the field and 3-6 from the 3-point line. There were six ties and six lead changes in the second half.
“It was a typical SBCC-Moorpark game, down to the wire,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We played awesome. We had to play smart in spurts.”
Mara Lux had seven points and 12 rebounds while Chelsea Hewitt had eight of her team’s 21 steals. The Vaqueros helped create 33 Raider turnovers — the third straight game their opponent has had 33 or more — and won despite making only 46.1 percent of their free throws (12-26).
Moorpark fell to 11-11 and 4-3.
After a bye on Wednesday, the Vaqueros will travel to L.A. Pierce on Saturday.
