Laguna Blanca senior guard Luther Tarver-Burks nearly hit the half-century mark on Wednesday, going off for 49 points in the Owls’ 76-54 Condor League win over Dunn.
Tarver-Burks scored at a remarkable pace in the second and third quarters of the game, collecting 35 of his points during that stretch as the Owls pulled away.
“His speed was beneficial in this game because he was able to run past the defense to score easy baskets in transition,” said assistant coach Bryce Hamaguchi. “He also crashed the offensive boards, leading to more easy baskets.”
It was Connor Gray who dominated the first quarter, scoring 10 of Laguna’s first 14 points and finishing with 21 on the night.
Hamaguchi said that Logan Elder and Gray set the tone defensively, frustrating the Earwig guards into turnovers.
The Owls, now 3-3 in league play, host Faith Baptist on Friday.
