Sowell lights out against Royals

Kacie Sowell lit up San Marcos’ girls basketball team in the first half on Thursday night, leading to a 56-35 Channel League victory for Buena.

Sowell scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half as the Bulldogs opened up a 38-20 halftime lead.

“Sowell just killed us in the first half,” said Royals head coach Kristyn Miller.

It was a better picture in the second half, which the Bulldogs won 18-15.

“We went out and were able to make some adjustments and held her to two points in the second half,” noteed Miller.

Kimmy Sanchez led San Marcos in scoring with 12 points and Marissa Unzueta added 10.

San Marcos is fighting through a mid-season rough patch, having lost its last five games to fall to 10-10. The Royals don’t have another game on their schedule until Jan. 19 against Dos Pueblos.
