Hayden Slaught had a season-high 15 points, but the Bishop Diego boys basketball team faltered after an even first quarter and dropped a 70-48 decision to visiting Nordhoff on Friday.
“We had a pretty good first quarter but then we just tried to do some things out of character,” said coach Ray “Slash” Vazquez. “It was a different rotation for us, and in the second and third quarters when they made their runs we just didn’t keep our compsure.”
Slaught was a bright spot, scoring nine points in the fourth quarter.
“He played like a senior in a league-opener at home,” said Vazquez.
The Cardinals are now 8-6 overall and 1-0 in the Frontier League.
