SBCC breaks out with upset of No. 2 Reedley

SBCC opened the women’s tennis season with an impressive 6-3 win over Reedley on Thursday at Pershing Park. Reedley, the Northern California runner-up last year with a 22-2 record, was ranked No. 2 in the Northern Cal preseason poll.

SBCC's Lindsay Penner reaches for a running backhand on Thursday at Pershing Park.

“Our singles did well and we showed our strength and depth,” said Vaquero coach Debbie Ekola. “We did well in the middle and bottom (of the lineup). Our strength is our depth.”

Singles winners included No. 2 Kendra Ross, No. 3 Anna Slyutova, No. 5 Amy Sagraves and No. 6 Meghan Schaefer. The doubles teams of Sagraves-Schaefer and Slyutova-Meike van Hoogenhuijze also posted victories.
