San Marcos’ girls water polo team captured a non-league win on Tuesday over visiting Thousand Oaks, comfortably beating the Lancers 12-3.
Mallory Zaunius stopped 10 shots in goal for the Royals, who were led in scoring by Brittny Hummel’s five goals.
San Marcos head coach Brian Roth thought Rose Koper played one of the best games of her high school career at the 2-meters. Koper recorded two goals, three steals and two drawn ejections.
The match started off slow, with the Royals taking a neglible 1-0 lead into the second quarter. The pace quickened in the next two quarters, when San Marcos opened up a 9-1 lead by scoring four goals in each period.
Hannah Koper affected the scoreboard with four goals and Flo Chardon connected for one.
San Marcos, which beat Buena 8-6 in its Channel League opener on Dec. 22, returns to league play on Thursday when they travel to No. 5 Santa Barbara.
