San Marcos’ Julian Lake took home a first-place title for the Royals wrestling team on Saturday from the San Bernardino Tournament at Arroyo Valley High School.
Lake defeated a wrestler from Etiwanda, which won the tournament as a team, in the 191-pound division by a score of 4-2 in overtime. San Marcos finished sixth overall as a team.
It’s the second-straight tournament win for Lake, who won in Santa Ynez last Saturday.
“He’s starting to peak at the right time,” said Royals head coach Tony Becerra. “It puts him in a good position to get a good seed in CIF.”
Tim Wallis reached his first varsity final in the 162-pound class. David Billesbach, Connor Pfefferly and Louis Giroux won their third-place matches while heavyweight Luis Urbina made the third-place match but couldn’t continue because of a broken finger.
The Royals host Buena on Thursday in a Channel League matchup and travel to Dos Pueblos the following week.
