San Marcos used a monster third quarter to beat Laguna Hills 13-5 in the TYR girls water polo tourney on Friday. The Royals then went on to beat Woodbridge of Irvine, 5-4.
Laguna Hills led San Marcos 5-4 at halftime of the first game, but the Royals scored five goals in the third quarter and pulled away from there. Brittny Hummel scored two of her four goals in the period. Flo Chardon, Zoe Kirker, Rose Koper and Hannah Koper each scored two goals in the game.
“That was a good game for us. I was really pleased,” said coach Brian Roth.
The matchup with Woodbridge began at 8 p.m., and the Royals shrugged off a slow start to get the one-goal victory. Rose Koper had a hat trick in the game while Hummel and Emilia Wakamatsu also scored.
Goalie Mallory Zaunius tallied five goals in each game.
The Royals play Bishop’s of San Diego on Saturday at 11 a.m.
