San Marcos came through with a big Channel League win on Tuesday against Ventura, posting an 11-6 victory in the Royals’ pool.
San Marcos worked well together as a team to complete its victory. The offense was led by multiple goals from Zoe Kirker, Flo Chardon and Rose Koper.
Senior keeper Mallory Zaunius had two great saves in the fourth quarter to hold off the Cougars, and established a season high with eight saves.
Coach Brian Roth had a hunch about the capability of his star senior.
“I knew Mallory would be good this week. She won cookies at the Round Table on Monday,” Roth said. “She actually won four sets of cookies but gave tickets and cookies away to others. I have never seen one kid win four out of six cookie batches at Round Table.”
San Marcos is now 12-7 and 2-3 in the league.
The Royals play Thursday against Fountain Valley at Santa Ana High School. They will also be competing on Friday and Saturday at the Bonita Tournament.
