San Marcos got off the schneid on Thursday, picking up its first boys soccer points of the Channel League season with a 1-1 tie against Buena.
Chris Olmedo assisted Scott Messier on a header in the 15th minute for Messier’s first goal of the season. The match leveled out for the rest of the half, but Olmedo was red-carded for choice language right before the break and Buena got the equalizer on the ensuing kick,
Despite being a man down for the second half, coach Brian Eisen said that his team was “a pleasure to watch.”
“I honestly think we played better with 10 than 11. Soccer’s weird like that sometimes,” he said, also citing a great game from Vince Viola.
Brian Shaw got his first varsity start in goal and made some key saves.
Next up for San Marcos, now 0-4-1 in league, is a game at Peabody Stadium against mighty Santa Barbara.
“We’re gonna carry that momentum against Santa Barbara and get three points against them if we can,” said Eisen.
