Avery Schwartz assisted Ema Boateng in the first half and Boateng returned the favor to open the second as the Cate boys soccer team defeated Midland 5-2 on Wednesday.
The Rams (5-1, 1-0) took 13 shots in the first half of the Condor League-opener, but only converted on Boateng’s score. After going up 2-0 in the second half, Midland was awarded a penalty kick and converted it to bring the score to 2-1.
Harry Gruner assisted Schwartz on a goal to make it 3-1, and Schwartz reciprocated just a few minutes later. Midland scored on a long ball and then Boateng put ball in position for Gruner to tally the final goal of the day.
Coach Dave Mochel also noted strong contributions from Edgar Velasco, Casey Barr, Johnny Woolf, and Jackson Mauze — all in the midfield.
Cate hosts Thacher on Wednesday.
