Santa Barbara’s Lakey Peterson and Parker Coffin are on a roll at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, having advanced into the fourth round of their respective divisions at the globe’s top amateur surfing contest in Piha, New Zealand.
Peterson is one of eight girls to have advanced through three heats without falling into the repercharge rounds. Peterson placed second in her third-round heat, which was the only heat of the round to have all four surfers post a double-digit score.
Peterson, 15, surfs against Hawaii’s Malia Manuel, Austrailia’s Felicity Palmateer and France’s Canelle Bulard in her next heat.

Tahitian Tefaafana Ariihoe could be in trouble as he surfs his third-round heat against three Americans, Andino, Coffin, and Thorton.
Four-time defending-champion Australia only has one remaining surfer, Matt Banting, in the main boys-16 draw.
Conner Coffin was put into a repercharge heat with defending boys-16 champion Keanu Aising and didn’t pull through, getting edged by the slimmest of margins, 8.90-8.75.
Parker Coffin and Peterson are part of an American charge that has Team USA within reach of a gold medal.
