It truly could have gone either way for the Laguna Blanca boys soccer team in its match at Thacher on Wednesday.
Not just the final score, which was 1-0 in favor of the Owls, but also the goal itself.
With 13 minutes left in the evenly played contest, Luke Judson flicked a ball to Troy Ritter, who shot the ball across the goalmouth. It deflected off the Toads’ keeper and rolled along the line until Seth Judson knocked it in.
“We aren’t sure whether the ball was over the line before Seth hit it, or whether it would have gone in on it’s own, so I don’t know whether to credit Troy or Seth. But the important thing from the team’s perspective is that it went in,” said coach Kevin Shertzer.
The win was a critical one for the Owls in the Condor League standings, and was also a big morale-boost after losing to Thacher 4-0 in the teams’ last meeting.
“Thacher is a strong opponent and is never easy to beat,” said Shertzer. “They are disciplined, athletic and hard working. You have to earn everything that you get from them and although it wasn’t a pretty game, my players got it done tonight.”
Despite a surge of pressure by the Toads after Laguna’s goal, keeper Pascal Karam was able to keep the clean sheet.
