Despite taking the lead twice, Laguna Blanca’s boys soccer team ended up with a 2-2 draw against Condor League powerhouse Dunn on Wednesday.
“I felt a 2-2 draw was a fair result, even though we led twice,” said coach Kevin Shertzer. “Dunn is an explosive team and can strike anytime, and I’m very proud of the performance that my entire team put in tonight.”
The Earwigs had numerous opportunities in the first 20 minutes, but Laguna goalie Pascal Karam and the Owls defense managed to keep the ball out of the net. Seth Judson made a nice slide tackle on a Dunn player and sent the ball squirting out to Troy Ritter, who blasted in the first goal from 25 yards out.
“Strangely, we seemed rattled by our goal and they equalized within 5 minutes on a scramble in front of our goal which we failed to clear,” recalled Shertzer.
Ritter was taken down hard and hurt early in the second half. He would play the rest of the game, but Luke Judson stepped in to take the penalty shot. Judson missed, but calmly collected his own rebound and put it in as the Owls went up 2-1. Dunn converted a penalty kick with 15 minutes to go that ended the scoring.
“Chris Bremner and Seth Judson, both my captains, played brilliant games and for the most part contained Fifi and Nana, their two main threats,” said Shertzer. “But overall, Laguna showed what we are capable of if we put in the effort. All accross the field, we played hard and came together as a team.”
