Laguna Blanca’s girls basketball team took Friday’s top prize, leaving Cate with a 37-25 Condor League loss in the league opener for both teams.
Amanda Schulenberg led the Owls with 12 points and Lauren McAlister produced nine more. Cate’s top scorer was post-player Grace Williams, finishing with nine points.
“They came out strong with a real tight zone,” explained Rams assistant coach Jim Masker. “We were not able to get an inside game going.”
Laguna Blanca took control of the game from the start, opening a 20-10 lead at halftime.
The Owls don’t have another game until Jan. 27 while the Rams travel to Dunn on Wednesday for their second league game of the season.
