Lane turns ankle, Vaqueros turn over decision

SBCC lost its leading scorer in the first three minutes Wednesday night, then dropped an 80-66 men’s basketball decision to Cuesta in San Luis Obispo.

David Lane, the fifth-leading scorer in the WSC, turned an ankle in the first three minutes. The Vaqueros (5-15, 1-5) fell behind 16-6 and 36-17 before cutting it to 43-30 at the half.

Cuesta (19-5, 5-1) is tied for first with Moorpark after the first round of WSC North play.

Lucky Teeguarden had 14 points and eight rebounds while Willie Reese collected 14 points for SBCC, which trimmed the deficit to eight (61-53) with nine minutes to go.

“We got off to a poor start and didn’t get back in defensive transition,” said coach Morris Hodges. “And we got hurt on the offensive boards.”

Daniel Koches added nine points while Chris Vines had seven points and five boards.

The Vaqueros will travel to first-place Moorpark on Saturday at 7 p.m.
