Daniel Koches notched 18 of his career-high 27 points in the second half and overtime Saturday night but SBCC still came up short in a WSC North men’s basketball game at Moorpark. The first-place Raiders posted a 98-93 victory, thanks to a 3-pointer at the buzzer that tied it at 81 and forced overtime.
Lucky Teeguarden had 17 points and six rebounds, Willie Reese had 15 points and six boards and Ryan Gosselin added 11 points for the Vaqueros (5-16, 1-6), who played without their leading scorer David Lane (ankle).
Santa Barbara built a 47-37 first-half lead over the Raiders (14-7, 6-1). The visitors led by three with seven seconds left in regulation but missed two free throws. After Moorpark missed a shot, SBCC grabbed the rebound but a player stepped out of bounds with 2.9 seconds left, setting the stage for the game-tying triple.
“We had our opportunities but we didn’t capitalize,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We came out aggressive and really defended well in the first half. It was a good team effort.”
After a bye on Wednesday, the Vaqueros travel to L.A. Pierce on Saturday.
