Claire Mathews assisted Brandie Harris on a goal in the 42nd minute and it held up as the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team won its Channel League opener over visiting Ventura on Friday, 1-0.
Meagan Bellefeuille picked up seven crucial saves, while coach Molly Imel also highlighted the play of seniors Kelsey Baker and Lauren Bradley up top and India Craig on defense.
“I’m proud of the girls for getting the job done despite some breakdowns in communication and coverage,” said Imel.
The Chargers play Santa Barbara High at Peabody Stadium on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
