They’re just not getting any breaks.
The San Marcos boys soccer team fell to 0-4 in Channel League play on Wednesday, suffering a 2-0 loss at Ventura.
“It’s just not going our way. We hit the crossbar twice and were getting shots from all over but weren’t getting any rebounds because their goalie would pounce on the ball,” said coach Brian Eisen.
The teams went into halftime scoreless, but the Cougars scored in the 46th minute on a volley into the side netting from 15 yards out. Fifteen minutes after that, a Ventura striker got behind the defense and sneaked in the second goal.
Eisen said that both Ventura’s athletic director and head coach later told him that the Cougars player was offsides, but that’s the way it’s been going for the Royals.
“The kids are playing good soccer, but we’re just not getting any breaks and we have a lot of injuries. It’s rough,” said Eisen.
Nahum Sanchez was a bright spot in his varsity debut, as was Ray Nowak at the striker position and Efren Gutierrez in goal.
