Carpinteria’s Joselyn Gamez scored off of an assist from Cindy Torres 15 minutes into the second half, but visiting La Reina had already scored three goals and eventually defeated the host Warriors 5-1 in Friday’s Frontier League girls soccer showdown.
Coach Lucy Carleton said that Torres showed impressive effort in the midfield and that Yadira Saldana looked solid in her first game back fro a broken collarbone. Tania Arroyo made numerous big saves in goal.
“The other coach complimented the girls on how much they’ve improved from last year and how they never put their heads down,” noted Carleton.
The Warriors (4-2, 0-1) host Fillmore on Wednesday.
