Carpinteria’s girls soccer team suffered a 5-2 defeat at Oaks Christian on Monday, which, given the two team’s recent history, wasn’t such a bad result.
“Compared to what we normally give up to Oaks Christitan, it was respectable,” said Warriors head coach Lucy Carleton. “We have never scored on them, much less two goals.”
Jocelyn Gamez scored in her fifth league game this season and has now scored against every school in the Tri-Valley League.
Gamez’s goal came in the first half to cut the Lions’ early lead down to 2-1. After halftime, Yadira Saldana scored the Warriors’ second goal to cut another two-goal Lions lead to one at 3-2.
“We definitely had them on their heels,” Carleton said, adding that sophomore Kelsey Drain sweeper defended well against the talented Lions attack.
Gamez’s goal was her 16th of the season for Carpinteria (5-6-0, 1-5-0).
La Reina is on Friday.
