Carpinteria’s boys soccer team walked away with a 2-1 win at Fillmore on Wednesday, overcoming a raucous home crowd that was overwhelmingly pro-Flashes.
“Their fans are crazy,” said Warriors head coach Daniel Torres, happy tp get the Tri-Valley League victory. “It seemed like one of those college basketball games you play on the road at Duke, or a school like that.”
Torres’ side didn’t seem too intimidated though, scoring the game’s first two goals to take a 2-0 lead.
Cameron Wagner put Carpinteria in front in the 10th minute by knocking home a loose ball. Juan Alaniz created the opportunity, sending in a cross from the left side that Fillmore’s keeper was unable to handle.
Alfredo Maya gave the Warriors their 2-0 advantage in the 20th minute on a through-ball from Oscar Montes.
“We got a little comfortable with that (lead),” said Torres, whose team gave up half its lead before halftime.
Carpinteria’s defense hunkered down in the second half, not allowing the equalizer.
“The defenders did a good job of keeping everything out of the box,” Torres noticed.
The Warriors, off to a 2-0 start in league and ranked No. 9 in Div. IV, are 9-1-1 overall. Oak Park visits Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium on Friday.
