Rebecca Griffin and Tess Emerson matched each other’s 15 points on Thursday night, helping Santa Barbara’s girls basketball team gain a Channel League victory in a 51-35 decision at Dos Pueblos.
“Anytime you win a league game you’re happy,” said Dons head coach Andrew Butcher, whose team is 2-0 to start league after collecting two rivalry wins this week against San Marcos and the Chargers.
The Dons, 14-4, meet undefeated Ventura in their next league game on Tuesday. First, they host Rio Mesa on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Tess Emerson grabbed 12 rebounds to go with her 15 points and Siondra Pererya added 10 rebounds for Santa Barbara, which outplayed DP in the paint.
Kristen Gowdy kept the Chargers in the game by knocking down four 3-pointers in the second half and finished with a game-high 17 points. Jasmine Mata was Dos Pueblos’ second-leading scorer with nine points.
The Chargers, 9-10, 0-2, will take on Buena on Tuesday in its next game.
